LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Sweet Briar College softball team (7-8, 0-2 ODAC) dropped two closely contested games against the University of Lynchburg Hornets (13-3, 2-0 ODAC) this afternoon falling by scores of 0-3 and 0-1 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) opening doubleheader.

Game One
The Hornets took an early 2-0 lead in game one as a single to center field brought in two runs across home plate.

Scoreless second, third and fourth innings were broken by the home team as they added a run to bring their lead to three.

Another scoreless inning in the sixth with the Vixens also remaining off the board in the top of the seventh brought the game to its 3-0 close.

Four pitchers saw action in game one for Sweet Briar with first-year Ambyre Taylor (Arrington, Va.) getting the start. The Virginia native struck out two batters through her two innings of action.

Sophomore Alyssa O'Quinn (Powhatan, Va.) also saw two innings of action and gave up zero runs while earning a single strikeout. Fellow sophomore Anna Smith (Rocky Mount, Va.) spent two inning in the circles to conclude the game.

Five Vixens recorded one hit while first-year Emily Roberts (Walkertown, N.C.) went one-for-one with a double in the top of the seventh. Sophomore Kaylie Hudson (Lynchburg, Va.) and first-year Jordan Martin (Wilmington, N.C.) also hit doubles of their own to bring the team's total to three in game one.

Defensively, first baseman Kaydin Williams (Richlands, N.C.) led the team with five putouts.

Game Two
The second game of the day was an even lower-scoring affair with Lynchburg's lone run coming off a single in the fifth inning.

Taylor once again opened up the game in the circle and faced a total of nine batters through two innings while O'Quinn saw seven at the plate through her own two innings.

Smith finished out the game for Sweet Briar with two innings of her own and also took on seven batters.

Sophomore Lauren Jamerson (Buckingham, Va.) led the team with two hits, one of which was a double to right center in the top of the seventh.
Williams racked up a career-high 13 put outs at first base.

Highlights
  • The team's three doubles in game one marks a new single-game high in that statistical category so far this season.
  • Game two marks the first time in program history that Sweet Briar has held Lynchburg to only a single run scored.
