Lacrosse Earns Second-Straight Win Over Trinity Washington

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Sweet Briar College lacrosse team (2-2) recorded its second-straight win of the season as the team took down the Trinity Washington University Tigers (0-4) on the road yesterday evening.

The Vixens got out to an early two-goal lead thanks to tallies from junior Valen Foster (Bushwood, Md.) and senior Renée Taylor (York, Pa.). A two-goal response by the Tigers would tie the game up midway through the first quarter of play.

It would be all Sweet Briar from then on out though, with the team scoring six straight to close out the first and begin the second.

Sophomore Ashley Prevet (Nesconset, N.Y.) tallied three goals over the roughly eight minutes of play while junior Trista Cleaves (Millville, N.J.) and Foster found the back of the net once and twice, respectfully.

Two more goals from the home team and five additional scores from sophomore Liz Carr (Charlottesville, Va.), senior Mackenzie Patterson (Chesterfield, Va.), junior Ashley Maggiora (Hollister, Calif.), and Cleaves combined brought the game to 13-4 heading into halftime.

Foster, senior Kat Navarro (Carlsbad, Calif.) and first-year Jayda Sandidge (Amherst, Va.) all scored in the third with a goal also coming from Trinity Washington to bring the game to a 16-5 close following the conclusion of the quarter.

First-year Lizzie Mehl (Richmond Hill, Ga.) got her first career start in goal while senior Jamison Tarver (Kingwood, Texas) led the team with seven ground balls and eight caused turnovers. Prevet won a team-high five draw controls.

Highlights
  • Carr, Maggiora, Navarro, Patterson and Sandidge all scored their first career goals while Mehl got her first career win.
  • 16 goals mark the highest single-game goal total for Sweet Briar since a 17-4 victory over Hollins on March 14, 2022.
