WAYNESBURG, Pa. – The Sweet Briar College lacrosse team (2-4) fell to the Waynesburg University Yellow Jackets (1-4, 0-0 PAC) on the road this afternoon by a score of 8-6.
Despite the Yellow Jackets netting the first goal of the game, it was the Vixens who dominated the first half of play with a four-goal run spanning the first and second quarters.
Junior
Valen Foster (Bushwood, Md.) and sophomore
Ashley Prevet (Nesconset, N.Y.) tallied one goal each to start the scoring with Foster then going on to score to more to put Sweet Briar up 4-1 halfway through the second quarter.
However, Waynesburg answered with three-straight goals of their own while Foster's third of the game brought the score to 5-4 in favor of the Vixens heading into the half.
A dominate three-goal third quarter by the home team while Sweet Briar was held to a single goal swung the lead back to the Yellow Jackets, 7-6.
With Waynesburg scoring the lone fourth quarter goal, the Yellow Jackets took home the eventual 8-6 victory.
Highlights
- First-year Lizzie Mehl (Richmond Hill, Ga.) got her second career start in net and totaled a career-high 11 saves.
- Junior Trista Cleaves (Millville, N.J.) led the team with six caused turnovers while Mehl totaled four ground balls.
What's Next
The Vixens will have some time off before welcoming Emory & Henry to campus on March 24th.
