HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Sweet Briar College softball team (10-19, 3-13 ODAC) was bested by the EMU Royals (9-14, 5-9 ODAC) in both games of today's doubleheader on the road.
The Royals took game one 2-6 and earned a 9-4 win in game two.
Game One
The Vixens failed to get on the board in the first three innings before the Royals managed to send two across home plate in the bottom of the third.
The home team tacked on an additional run in the fourth before a single from sophomore
Kaydin Williams (Richlands, N.C.) brought the score to 3-2.
However, EMU answered back with two additional runs in the fifth and an insurance tally in the sixth to take the 6-2 victory following a scoreless seventh.
First-year
Ambyre Taylor (Arrington, Va.) struck out three batters after getting the start in the circle and seeing 4.1 innings of action. In relief, sophomore
Anna Smith (Rocky Mount, Va.) only allowed two hits in 1.2 innings.
Taylor, Williams, sophomore
Victoria Tew (Hope Mills, N.C.) and first-year
Jordan Dorrier (Buckingham, Va.) led the team with one hit while Williams also totaled six putouts at first base.
Game Two
The Royals started game two off hot as well with a run scored in both the first and second innings.
A single from Tew in the top of the third and a double from sophomore
Lauren Jamerson (Buckingham, Va.) in the top of the fourth saw the Vixens take their first lead of the day with a score of 4-2.
It would be all EMU in the fifth inning, however, as the home team managed to bring in seven runs, to ensure a 9-4 victory after a scoreless sixth and seventh.
Smith, Taylor and sophomore
Alyssa O'Quinn (Powhatan, Va.) all saw action in the circle and all recorded one strikeout.
At the plate, Jamerson led the team with her fourth-inning double to bring in three runs while also recording two hits along with fellow sophomore
Kaylie Hudson (Lynchburg, Va.) to lead the team.
Williams once again led Sweet Briar in the field with 10 putouts.
Highlights
- Williams has recorded double-digit put-outs in four games this season.
- Jamerson's fourth innings double was her fourth of the season.
