DANVILLE, Va. – The No. 49 Sweet Briar College tennis team (17-2, 8-1 ODAC) was handed only its second loss of the season today as the team fell to the No. 46 Averett University Cougars (13-4, 9-0 ODAC), 8-1.
The Cougars took an early 3-0 lead after securing wins in all three doubles matches.
The No. 1 duo of A. Guilarte/Patino battled Khandelwai/Gunning to the tiebreak before falling by a score of 8-7 (7-5).
In singles play, first-year
Juli Caracciolo earned the lone victory for the Vixens with a three-set 5-7, 6-3, 1-0 (10-4) win against Brenda Poulakidas at No. 5.
Both senior
Isabela Guilarte (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and sophomore
Alex Guilarte's (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) No. 1 and No. 3 matches saw at least one set go to extra games.
