SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The Sweet Briar College lacrosse team (2-7) celebrated its seniors in an 8-5 loss to the Warren Wilson College Owls (4-5) this afternoon at Meyer Field.
The Owls got off to a hot start, scoring all five of the goals tallied in the first half of play.
The Vixens would kick off the third quarter with two straight tallies of their own as juniors
Valen Foster (Bushwood, Md.) and
Trista Cleaves (Millville, N.J.) found the back of the net.
A tally from the visitors brought the score to 6-2 before Foster's second of the game once again cut the lead down to three.
Sophomore
Ashley Prevet (Nesconset, N.Y.) found fellow sophomore
Victoria Schofield (Towson, Md.) on the woman-up opportunity to kick off fourth-quarter scoring and Schofield would tally her second of the game just over five minutes later for Sweet Briar's fifth of the game.
Warren Wilson solidified its victory with a final-minute goal to bring the game to its 8-5 conclusion.
Cleaves led the team with six ground balls, five caused turnovers and six draw controls.
Highlights
- Senior goalkeeper Kat Navarro (Carlsbad, Calif.) recorded fifteen saves.
- Cleaves earned the assist on Sweet Briar's first goal of the game.
