SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The Sweet Briar College lacrosse team (2-8) was tripped up by the Greensboro College Pride (1-10, 0-5 USA South) this evening, falling by a score of 15-13.
The Vixens struck first only a little over a minute in as junior
Trista Cleaves (Millville, N.J.) found the back of the net off a pass from fellow junior
Valen Foster (Bushwood, Md.).
The team went on to score two more goals in the span of two minutes later in the first quarter as Foster and sophomore
Victoria Schofield (Towson, Md.) both go their names on the scoresheet.
Tallies from the visitors with 6:20 and 5:42 left to play in the first brought the score to 3-2.
Schofield's second of the game while Sweet Briar was a woman down gave the team its two-goal lead back, however, the Pride would answer back with a final tally to conclude the first quarter and bring the score to 4-3.
Only one goal was scored in the second quarter of play; a tally from Greensboro which evened things up at four heading into halftime.
The visitors then went on a three-goal run to go up 7-4 before goals from Foster and sophomore
Ashley Prevet (Nesconset, N.Y.) while playing a woman up brought the Vixens to within one.
The two teams then traded goals back in forth to close out the third quarter of play with the score at 11-8 in favor of the Pride.
Two-straight by Cleaves to open up action in the fourth once again brought Sweet Briar to within one. However, with the next seven goals alternating between the visitors and Cleaves, Greensboro would ultimately leave the field with the 15-13 victory.
In goal, senior
Kat Navarro (Carlsbad, Calif.) racked up 11 saves.
Highlights
- Cleaves' eight goal performance marks the highest single-game goal total of her career.
- Senior Dani Peloso (Centreville, Va.) earned her first point of the season with an assist on Foster's third-quarter goal.
