SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The Sweet Briar College tennis team (14-1, 6-0 ODAC) extended its win streak to eight-straight matches this afternoon with a 9-0 victory over the Roanoke College Maroons (7-9, 4-3 ODAC) at the Van Der Meer Tennis Center.
The Vixens started the match off strong with the No. 3 doubles team of Bovard/Minton taking down Breedlove/Wright, 8-0.
The duo of A. Guilarte/Patino took down Fernstrum/Gustafson, 8-6, at No. 1 doubles while Caro/I. Guilarte defeated Bassett/Striebich, 8-4, in the No. 2 match to bring Sweet Briar up 3-0.
Both first-years
Isadora Lima (Natal, Brazil) and
Juli Caracciolo (Los Cardales, Argentina) won their matches by set scores of 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively.
In the No. 4 singles match, sophomore
Alex Guilarte (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) earned a 6-1, 6-1 win over Julia Bassett while senior
Isabela Guilarte (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) secured a 6-4, 6-0 victory against Lia Striebich at No. 1.
Rounding out the 9-0 sweep for the Vixens were juniors
Ana Patino (Medellín, Colombia) and
Maria Caro (Bogota, Colombia) who achieved a No. 2 singles 6-4, 7-5 win and a No. 3 singles 7-5, 6-2 victory, respectively.
Highlights
- Today's match marks the second-straight regular season sweep for Sweet Briar over Roanoke.
- Caro and Lima both earned their first victories of the season at No. 3 and No. 5 singles, respectively.
- Lima now improves to 10-0 over the dual season.
