Field Hockey Topples Lancaster Bible

SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The Sweet Briar College field hockey team (2-4, 0-0 ODAC) took down the Lancaster Bible Chargers (1-6, 0-0 UEC), 3-2, in this afternoon's home opener at Thayer Field.

The Vixens started the scoring off early with sophomore Emmi Burdine's (Huntington Beach, Calif.) first of the season coming off a pass from senior Lara Jost (Würzburg, Germany) at the 1:40 mark.

A scoreless second quarter would keep Sweet Briar's lead to one entering halftime.

The team then went on to more than double their goal total in the third thanks to tallies from sophomore Gigi Hutman (Bordentown, N.J.) and Burdine.

Burdine assisted on Hutman's early third-quarter goal before tallying her second of the game five minutes later to put the Vixens up 3-0.

Despite a push from Lancaster Bible which saw a goal tallied in both the third and fourth quarters, Sweet Briar was able to withstand the late pressure to take the eventual 3-2 victory.

Highlights
  • Today's game marks the first multi-goal game of Burdine's career.
  • Sweet Briar extends its win streak over Lancaster Bible to four straight games.
