SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The Sweet Briar College field hockey team (3-4, 0-0 ODAC) took down the Southern Virginia University Knights (0-5, 0-0) this evening, 6-0, at Thayer Field.
After a scoreless first quarter of action, senior
Lara Jost (Würzburg, Germany) got the Vixens on the board halfway through the second.
An additional goal from junior
Carson Tucker (Durham, N.C.) increased Sweet Briar's lead to two entering the half.
In the third quarter, sophomore
Gigi Hutman (Bordentown, N.J.) tallied three straight goals in just over eight minutes of action to bring the score to 5-0.
A final tally from senior
Kailey McCarthy (Atkinson, N.H.) gave the Vixens the eventual 6-0 victory.
All three goalkeepers, senior
Ashley Maggiora (Hollister, Calif.) and first-years (
Reiyn Hart (Bridgton, Maine) and
Trinity Towe (Chesapeake, Va.) saw action.
Highlights
- Tonight marks the first hat trick of Hutman's career and the first from a Vixen since 2021.
- First-year Megan Newton (Jaffrey, N.H.) recorded her first career point with an assist on Hutman's goal.
- Tucker tallied the first goal of her collegiate career.
