LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Sweet Briar College indoor track and field team opened up 2025 today with action at The Burg Open.
The meet kicked off with the 60-meter dash prelims. Senior
Julianna McIntyre (Englewood, Fla.) and first-years Electra McPherson (Madison Heights, Va.) and
Veronica Barney (Leesburg, Va.) all took to the track for Sweet Briar.
McIntyre crossed the finish line at the 8.95 mark while McPherson and Barney earned times of 8.95 and 9.20, respectively.
In the one-mile run, junior
Carolina Wilson (Hedgesville, W. Va.) placed 15th with a time of 6:10.50) while sophomore
Mia Viccora (Fairfax, Va.) placed right behind in her 16th at the 7:07.13 mark.
Senior
Alia Peets (Devonshire, Bermuda) once again contested the 400-meter dash and placed ninth thanks to her time of 1:10.32.
Wilson and Viccora also finished one after another in the 800-meter run as Wilson earned a time of 3:00.04 and Viccora completed the race at the 3:07.88 mark.
The Vixens had five entries in the 200-meter dash with McIntyre leading the way in 29th with her time of 30.66. McPherson, Barney, Peets and first-year
Mila Mutabdzija (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) finished 32nd through 35th with their times of 31.49, 31.91., 32.12 and 34.17, respectively.
Barney also went on to place 11th in the long jump with a distance of 13' 10 ¾" while McPherson took 13th after landing at the 13' 4 ½" mark.
First-year
Michaela Carr (Springfield, Va.) got Sweet Briar in on the action in the throwing events with 11th in the shot put with her new personal-best throw of 17' 4 ¼".
Highlights
- Barney bested her previous 60-meter dash time by .07.
- McIntyre set a new personal best in the 200-meter dash.

The Vixens will compete at the Finn Pincus Invitational, Jan. 17th-18th.
