SALEM, Va. – The Sweet Briar College track and field team wrapped up two straight days of competition at the Finn Pincus Invitational hosted by Roanoke today.
The team kicked off action yesterday with the 60-meter dash prelims and the distance medley relay (DMR).
Both senior
Julianna McIntyre and first-year
Electra McPherson earned new personal-best times after crossing the finish line at the 8.93 and 9.00 marks, respectively. First-year
Veronica Barney (Leesburg, Va.) also took to the start line for the event and finished with a time of 9.26 while fellow first-year
Mila Mutabdzija (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) recorded a time of 10.07.
The team took second place in the DMR as first-year
Mia Viccora (Fairfax, Va.), McPherson, senior
Alia Peets (Devonshire, Bermuda) and junior
Carolina Wilson (Hedgesville, W. Va.) combined for a time of 15:26.41.
The second day of action saw Peets, McIntyre, Viccora and Wilson all take part in the 400-meter dash. Peets led the way with her time of 1:11.14 while McIntyre, Viccora and Wilson all finished one after another with their times of 1:16.18, 1:16.42 and 1:16.71, respectively.
Five Vixens also took on the 200-meter dash. McPherson finished the race in 30.99, McIntyre in 31.05, Barney in 32.14, Mutabdzija in 34.43 and first-year
Michaela Carr (Springfield, Va.) crossed the finish line in 52.28.
In field events, Barney recorded a distance of 4.05m in the long jump and McPherson earned a distance of 3.70m as well.
Highlights
- Yesterday's DMR result marks a new school record for the program.
- Wilson also set a new personal best with a time of 2:57.52 in the 800-meter run while Viccora finished right behind her with a time of 2:58.51.
What's Next
The Vixens will be back in action at the Liberty Open, Feb. 7th – 8th.
