Soccer Blanked by Randolph

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Sweet Briar College soccer team (4-4-0, 0-3-0 ODAC) was blanked by the Randolph College WildCats (4-4-1, 1-2-0) this evening, falling by a score of 3-0.

In the opening period, Sweet Briar's defense worked hard against steady offensive pressure from Randolph. Junior goalkeeper Mia Viccora (Fairfax, Va.) registered one save as Randolph scored twice. Fellow junior Emily Michel (Centennial, Colo.) recorded Sweet Briar's only shot, which was blocked. Despite being constantly tested, defenders junior Kaelin Hanson (Los Alamos, N.M.), first-year Abby Broom (Sylva, N.C.) and the rest of the back line helped limit additional threats and kept the score manageable heading into halftime.

The second half saw Randolph continue their offensive push, adding 11 more shots and a third goal in the 74th minute. Sweet Briar's defensive resolve was evident as Viccora stepped up with eight more saves in goal, finishing with nine total for the match and showcasing her resilience under fire. Junior midfielders Elise Bennett (Louisa, Va.) and Alexis Diaz (Connelly Springs, N.C.) were solid contributors, each logging a full ninety minutes and helping in defensive transitions.

Highlights
  • Michel led the team in shots.
  • Eight different players for Sweet Briar saw all 90 minutes of action tonight.
