Field Hockey Shuts Out EMU
HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Sweet Briar College field hockey team (3-10, 1-6 ODAC) secured a decisive 2-0 victory on the road this evening against the Eastern Mennonite Royals (0-15, 0-6 ODAC).
The first quarter saw Sweet Briar come out aggressively, registering five shots. The Vixens generated two penalty corners and kept the pressure high, with key shooting attempts from sophomore
Megan Newton (Jaffrey, N.H.) and junior
Gigi Hutman (Bordentown, N.J.). Sweet Briar's defense held firm, limiting Eastern Mennonite to just one shot in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Sweet Briar converted their intensity into a lead. After a series of opportunities and blocked shots, Hutman broke the deadlock at the 20-minute mark, scoring on a penalty stroke for her second goal of the season. Newton continued to drive the attack with frequent attempts, and the team recorded eight total shots in the quarter, maintaining control and a steady flow of penalty corners. Reiyn Hart (Bridgton, Maine), held the Royals to just one shot, which Hart comfortably saved, sending Sweet Briar into halftime with a 1-0 advantage.?

The fourth quarter saw Sweet Briar focusing on game management and continuing their strong defensive display. Hart and her defenders thwarted every aim from Eastern Mennonite, preserving the shutout.
