LEXINGTON, Va. – The Sweet Briar College swim team opened up the 2025-26 season this afternoon, placing ninth at the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Relays.
In the 100-yard freestyle relay, the quartet of first-year
Ava Powers (Crandall, Texas), sophomores
Karissa Boyce (Red Rock, Texas) and
Carlee Minyard (Jacksonville, Fla.) and junior
Julia Elliott (Norfolk, Va.) swam to a finish of 1:08.44. For the 3x50-yard butterfly relay, the trio of sophomore
Geneva Seitz (Havre de Grace, Md.), sophomore
Emily Carter (Kermit, W. Va.) and Boyce posted a time of 2:06.53. In the 3x50-yard backstroke relay, Powers, Carter and Elliott combined for a 2:09.94 finish.
The Vixens also participated in the 3x50-yard breaststroke relay with Minyard, junior
EJ Scherrer (Simpsonville, S.C.) and Boyce, touching the wall at the 2:40.01 mark. The team raced the 400-yard freestyle relay, where Seitz, Carter, Elliott and Powers worked together for a time of 5:21.22. In the 200-yard medley relay, Sweet Briar's group of Carter, Scherrer, Seitz and Elliott finished with a 2:34.71. For the 100-yard underwater fly kick relay, the lineup of Scherrer, Seitz,
Carlee Minyard and Boyce recorded a time of 1:23.28.
The meet closed with the 200-yard freestyle relay, where Scherrer, Elliott, Minyard and Seitz finished in 1:58.93 to place 16th.
Highlights
- Sweet Briar bested its time from last year in the 100-yard freestyle relay by nearly five seconds.
- Last year's 200-yard freestyle relay time was also toppled today.
What's Next
The Vixens will compete in their first tri-meet of the season against Hollins and Southern Virginia on Oct. 10th in Hampden Sydney, Va.
