GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Sweet Briar College swim team (1-8, 1-6 ODAC) completed day one of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championships today with two sessions at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
The Vixens wrapped up Thursday morning's prelims with representation in both the distance and sprint freestyle events. In the 500-yard freestyle, sophomore
Geneva Seitz (Havre de Grace, Md.) placed 32nd, touching in 6:54.37 with splits that included a 34.34 opening 50 and a 38.89 on the second 50 before closing with a 41.08 on the final length.
Sweet Briar had a large presence in the 50-yard freestyle, where seven swimmers raced in the morning session. Junior
EJ Scherrer (Simpsonville, S.C.) led the Sweet Briar sprint group, finishing 32nd in 30.79, splitting 14.81 to the feet and 15.98 coming home. Just behind her, junior
Emily Carter (Kermit, W. Va.) placed 33rd in 31.45, turning in 15.55 and closing in 15.90. First-year
Kylee Nickerson (Waterford, Mich.) claimed 35th with a time of 33.71, splitting 16.56 out and 17.15 back. Junior
Julia Elliott (Norfolk, Va.) finished 36th in 35.42, with splits of 16.81 and 18.61. First-year
Katie Kreska (West Lawn, Pa.) took 37th in 38.30, going 17.61 on the first 25 and 20.69 on the second 25. Junior
Carlee Minyard (Jacksonville, Fla.) placed 38th with a 38.67, opening in 19.03 and closing in 19.64. Rounding out the Sweet Briar group, first-year
Ava Powers (Crandall, Texas) finished 39th in 38.70, splitting 18.57 and 20.13
The lone results in today's finals came in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The relay team of Powers, Elliott, Minyard and Kreska placed ninth after putting in a time of 2:29.35.
Highlights
- Carter, Kreska, Minyard and Nickerson all set new personal-best times in the 50-yard freestyle by over one second.
- Elliott also bested her time in the event.
