Track & Field Sees Multiple PRs at Joe La Rocco Invitational

SALEM, Va. – The Sweet Briar College indoor track & field team saw multiple student-athletes set new personal records at the Joe La Rocco Invitational today at Roanoke.
 
Action kicked off with the 60-meter dash which saw four Vixens take to the track. First-year Electra McPherson (Madison Heights, Va.) led the way with a new personal-best time of 8.66 to place 27th. Senior Julianna McIntyre (Englewood, Fla.) placed 36th with a time of 8.91 while both senior Molly Booth (Orono, Maine) and Mila Mutabdzija (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) achieved new personal bests with times of 9.24 and 9.96, respectively.
 
Junior Carolina Wilson (Hedgesville, W. Va.) was the lone Sweet Briar runner in the 1-mile run and placed 39th after crossing the finish line at the 6:23.24 mark.
 
In the 800-meter run, both sophomore Mia Viccora (Fairfax, Va.) and senior Alia Peets (Devonshire, Bermuda) improved upon their best times. Viccora placed 34th with a time of 2:50.71 while Peets recorded a time of 2:55.87 to finish in 40th.
 
McIntyre was the first out of seven Vixens to cross the finish line in the 200-meter dash as her time of 29.89 placed her in 29th followed by McPherson in 30th with a time of 30.01. Booth improved upon her collegiate pace with a time of 31.67 along with Mutabdzija, whose time of 33.56 marks a new best for her.
 
Junior Jaiana Gray (Chicago, Ill.) completed the race in 38.90 and was followed by first-year Michaela Carr (Springfield, Va.) on the timing sheet with her new career-best showing of 49.66. First-year Kathleen Borum (Chesapeake, Va.) completed the event in 50.33.
 
In field action, both first-year Veronica Barney (Leesburg, Va.) and McPherson participated in the long jump and earned distances of 4.17m and 4.13m, respectively.
 
Barney also saw action in the triple jump and crossed a distance of 9.43 to set a new benchmark for the program.
 
Highlights
  • McPherson improved upon her 60-meter dash time to set a new program record.
  • The previous 800-meter run school record was broken by Viccora in today's action. 
What's Next
The Vixens will head to the Rockingham Collegiate Open, hosted by Bridgewater, on Feb. 21st.
