HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Sweet Briar College indoor track & field team continued its steady improvement on both personal and program records today with action at the Rockingham Collegiate Open, hosted by Bridgewater.
First-year
Electra McPherson (Madison Heights, Va.) continued her success in the 60-meter dash with a new personal best time of 8.58 on her way to a 14th-place finish. Senior
Julianna McIntyre immediately followed McPherson on the timing sheet with a personal best of her own; an 8.67 finish in 15th.
Additional individual collegiate records were set by both senior
Molly Booth (Orono, Maine) and first-year
Mila Mutabdzija (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) as they completed the race in 9.15 and 9.83, respectively.
In the 1-mile run, sophomore
Mia Viccora (Fairfax, Va.) clocked in her fastest time of 6:30.06 to finish in 13th followed by junior
Carolina Wilson (Hedgesville, W. Va.) in 14th with a time of 6:31.07. Both Viccora and Wilson also contested the 800-meter run and recorded times of 2:54.20 and 3:06.99, respectively.
Senior
Alia Peets (Devonshire, Bermuda) was the lone Vixen in the 400-meter dash and completed the race in 1:11.96 to place 11th.
Five Sweet Briar runners saw action in the 200-meter dash with McPherson, Booth and Mutabdzija all turning in new personal bests. McPherson led the way with a 13th-place finish thanks to her time of 29.11 and was once again followed by McIntyre who clocked in a time of 29.74.
Peets finished the race in 30.63 while Booth crossed the finish line at the 31.24 mark and Mutabdzija posted a 33.26 on the timing sheet.
Moving on to field events, both first-year
Veronica Barney (Leesburg, Va.) and McPherson took on the long jump. Barney traversed a distance of 4.29 while McPherson's jump of 4.19 marked a new personal best.
In the shot put, junior
Jaiana Gray (Chicago, Ill.) got the Vixens their first top-10 finish as she threw a distance of 8.73m. First-year
Michaela Carr (Springfield, Va.) recorded a throw of 5.57m while senior
Olivia Garrett (Williamsburg, Va.) and first-year
Kathleen Borum (Chesapeake, Va.) recorded distances of 5.38m and 4.98m, respectively.
Highlights
- McPherson improved upon her program records in both the 60-meter dash and the 200-meter dash.
- Gray smashed the previous program record in shot put by over 2m.

The Vixens will head to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Indoor Championship, March 1st – 2nd.
