SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The Sweet Briar College tennis team (2-0, 1-0 ODAC) opened up the spring season at the Van Der Meer Tennis Center this evening with a 7-0 victory over the Roanoke College Maroons (1-3, 0-1 ODAC).
The Vixens started the match off with victories in all three doubles matches to secure the singular doubles point.
Both Guilarte/Patino and Caracciolo/Lima defeated their opponents by scores of 6-1. Guilarte/Patino took down Bassett/Streibich at the No. 1 doubles while Caracciolo/Lima's victory came at the No. 2 slot.
Rounding out doubles victories for Sweet Briar was the duo of Bestwick/Cope who fought to a 7-5 win against Breedlove/Wright at No. 3.
In singles play, all six of the matches were won by the Vixens. Junior
Lucia Bovard (Mount Pleasant, N.C.) got Sweet Briar started with a 6-0, 6-2 takedown of Camryn Breedlove at the No. 6 spot.
Sophomores
Isadora Lima (Natal, Brazil) at No. 4 and
Juli Caracciolo (Los Cardales, Argentina) at No. 3 finished their matches not long after Bovard. Lima earned her victory over Victoria Rios, 6-1, 6-1, while Caracciolo won against Julia Bassett, 6-1, 6-2.
Senior
Ana Patino (Medellín, Colombia) saw a 6-1, 6-4 win over Raygan Wade at No. 2 singles while sophomore
Maggie Minton (Wytheville, Va.) won her No. 5 singles match against Sidney Wright, 6-3, 6-1.
Completing the sweep for Sweet Briar was junior
Alex Guilarte (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) who battled to a 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (10-3) win against Lia Streibich at the No. 1 position.
Highlights
- Caracciolo, Guilarte, Lima and Patino remain undefeated in dual matches in both singles and doubles.
- Sweet Briar has now six-straight matches against Roanoke dating back to the 2021 season.
