MISENHEIMER, N.C. – The Sweet Briar College lacrosse team (0-2, 0-0 ODAC) battled the Pfeiffer University Falcons (1-1, 0-0 USA South) this afternoon on the road, falling by a score of 13-11.
The Vixens tallied the first goal of the game less than 30 seconds into action as senior
Trista Cleaves (Millville, N.J.) found the back of the net.
That lead increased to two a few minutes later off a tally from junior
Victoria Schofield (Towson, Md.). However, the Falcons answered back with three straight-goals to take the 3-2 lead.
Schofield's second of the game tied things back up at three, but with the final goal of the first quarter going to the home team, Sweet Briar found themselves down 4-3 entering the second.
First-year
Elise Palazzo (Allentown, Pa.) tied the two teams back up less than a minute into the second quarter, but Pfeiffer's four-straight goals gave them an 8-4 lead heading into halftime.
Back-to-back tallies from Schofield to kick off the third saw the home team's lead drop to two The two teams traded goals and back and forth through the rest of the third quarter as Palazzo notched her second and junior
Ashley Prevet (Nesconset, N.Y.) got in on the action to put the score at 11-8 with the final 15 minutes left.
Sweet Briar added three more to the scoreboard from senior
Ashley Maggiora (Hollister, Calif.), Schofield and Palazzo, but it was not enough to fight back against the Falcons and the game eventually came to a 13-11 close.
Highlights
- Palazzo scored her first career goal at the 14:27 mark of the second period.
- First-year Geneva Seitz (Havre de Grace, Md.) registered 13 saves and nine ground balls in goal.
- Both Seitz and senior Jamison Tarver (Kingwood, Texas) registered four caused turnovers.
