MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Sweet Briar College softball team (7-3, 0-0 ODAC) kicked off spring break action today with victories over the SUNY Canton Roos (0-3, 0-0 SUNYAC) and the Franciscan University Barons (0-2, 0-0 PAC).
Game One
The Vixens started the scoring off early against the Roos with a two-run top of the first. A left-field single from first-year
Abi Sawyers (Matthews, N.C.) brought home sophomore
Jordan Martin (Wilmington, N.C.) to get the first run on the board while senior
Victoria Tew's (Hope Mills, N.C.) infield single scored Sawyers.
After a scoreless second inning, Sweet Briar increased its lead to six with four runs scored in the third.

Kaylie Hudson (Lynchburg, Va.) and Tew all crossed home plate to tally the runs.
In the top of the fourth, sophomore
Emma Staton (Buckingham, Va.) made a trip around the bases to bring the score to 7-0 while additional runs off a right-field single by sophomore
Ambyre Taylor (Arrington, Va.) and a center field single by junior
Lauren Jamerson (Buckingham, Va.) put the Vixens up 9-0.
A scoreless fifth inning saw the game come to an early 9-0 close.
Taylor got the start in the circle for Sweet Briar and pitched a no-hitter off the back of her perfect game on March 1st.
Tew was a perfect three-for-three at the plate with three RBIs while Martin accounted for three of the Vixens' nine runs.
Game Two
Sweet Briar's offense picked right up where it left off in game one with three runs in the first inning of game two.
A double from first-year
Grace Rokos (Jacksonville, N.C.) scored Martin while sophomore
Lacey Steppe's (Charlotte County, Va.) single to center field brought home both first-year
Leila Atienza (Jacksonville, N.C.) and Jamerson.
Franciscan got a run back in the top of the third to bring the score to 3-1, however, the Vixens answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Rokos added to her RBI total with a sacrifice bunt to bring Martin across home plate. The fifth run of the game was scored by Sawyers off a center-field single by Atienza.
The team added one more run in the sixth as Rokos scored on a fielder's choice play to bring the game to its 6-1 close.
Sawyers started the game for Sweet Briar and recorded six strikeouts through four innings of work. Junior
Alyssa O'Quinn (Powhatan, Va.) and first-year
Annie Purvis (Madison Heights, Va.) saw the final three innings of the game through and combined for three strikeouts.
Martin was three-for-three at the place with one double and one triple and scored two of the Vixens' six runs.
Steppe recorded 10 putouts at first base.
Highlights
- Taylor recorded 14 strikeouts in game one, a new career high.
- Martin now ranks fourth in the conference in runs scored with 16.
