SALEM, Va. – The Sweet Briar College indoor track & field team concluded its first-ever appearance at the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Indoor Track & Field Championships today with five events.
Sunday afternoon action kicked off with field events leading the way.
First-year
Veronica Barney (Leesburg, Va.) contested the triple jump and traversed a distance of 9.23m to place 14th.
Junior
Jaiana Gray (Chicago, Ill.) saw action in the shot put and placed 20th with her throw of 8.49m.
Senior
Alia Peets (Devonshire, Bermuda) got things underway on the track with her 20th-place finish in the 400-meter dash. Peets crossed the finish line at the 1:08.50 mark to set a new personal best.
Both first-year
Electra McPherson (Madison Heights, Va.) and senior
Julianna McIntyre (Englewood, Fla.) competed in the 200-meter dash. McPherson placed 20th and McIntyre came in 22nd with times of 29.23 and 29.69, respectively.
Sweet Briar's first-ever point scored at the ODAC Championships came at the hands of the 4x400-meter relay team of Peets, sophomore
Mia Viccora (Fairfax, Va.), junior
Carolina Wilson (Hedgesville, W. Va.) and McPherson. The team combined for a new program record time of 4:49.87 to place eighth.
Highlights
- Peet's time in the 400-meter dash marked a new program record in the event.
- McIntyre set a new personal-best in the 200-meter dash.
