Tennis Takes Two Wins on Senior Day

SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The Sweet Briar College tennis team (8-3 4-0 ODAC) swept competition on Senior Day at the Van Der Meer Tennis Center with 7-0 wins over both the Trinity Washington University Tigers (0-2) and the Guilford College Quakers (6-4, 4-2 ODAC).

All three of the doubles matches contested were won handily by scores of 6-0. Lima/Patino defeated Hsieh/Ware at No. 1, Guilarte/Minton took down Daodu/White at No. 2 and Bestwick/Cope completed the doubles sweep with a victory against Coy/Favila at No. 3.
 
The Vixens continued the momentum in singles play where, once again, not a single game was conceded to the Tigers.
 
Senior Ana Patino (Medellín, Colombia) earned the No. 1 singles victory over Emily Hsieh while sophomore Juli Caracciolo (Los Cardales, Argentina) defeated Sydney Ware at No. 2.
 
At No. 3, junior Alex Guilarte (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) notched the straight-set victory over Sindy Favila and fellow junior Lucia Bovard (Mount Pleasant, N.C.) saw a win against Kyliah White at No. 4.
 
First-year Ari Cope (Richmond, Va.) and junior Atty Bestwick (Durham, N.C.) helped Sweet Briar complete the sweep with wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles.

The duo of Guilarte/Patino got the Vixens started on the right foot with a 6-0 win against Belnap/Mendez at No. 1 doubles with additional doubles wins earned by Lima/Minton (6-2) at No. 2 and Bestwick/Bovard (6-1) at No. 3.
 
Guilarte, Lima and Bovard all earned their singles wins thanks to perfect 6-0, 6-0 scores. Guilarte defeated Jolie Nhouyvanisvong at No. 3, Lima took down Amy Soto at No. 4 and Bovard saw her victory come against LaNiya Ward at No. 6.
 
Sophomore Maggie Minton (Wytheville, Va.) only conceded a single game in her 6-1, 6-2 No. 5 singles victory over Bethany Lupo while Caracciolo nabbed a 6-0, 6-2 win against Erika Mendez at No. 2.
 
Rounding out the victories for the Vixens was Patino with her 6-2, 7-6 (7-3) take down of Ashley Belnap at the No. 1 spot.
 
Highlights
  • Caracciolo, Guilarte, Lima, Minton and Patino all remain perfect in conference play with 3-0 records in singles.
  • Sweet Briar has not lost a single match to Trinity Washington since 2018 and to Guilford since 2020.

The Vixens will hit the road for matches at No. 26 Washington and Lee on March 27th and Randolph-Macon on March 28th.
