LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Sweet Briar College outdoor track & field team wrapped up its first-ever competition, the Dr. Jack Tom's Alumni Invitational hosted by Lynchburg, today.
The action kicked off on Friday with both the javelin and hammer throw events.
Senior
Julianna McIntyre (Englewood, Fla.) was the lone Vixen in the javelin and placed 29th with a throw of 14.64m.
Junior
Jaiana Gray (Chicago, Ill.), sophomore
Quinn Gorman (Leesburg, Va.) and first-year
Kathleen Borum (Chesapeake, Va.) all took part in the hammer throw. Gray led the way with a throw of 20.99m to place 22nd while Gorman and Borum finished right behind her with distances of 19.62m and 12.35m, respectively.
Today, sophomore
Mia Viccora (Fairfax, Va.) got things started with her 32nd-place finish in the 1500-meter run with a time of 6:02.73.
First-years
Electra McPherson (Madison Heights, Va.) and
Veronica Barney (Leesburg, Va.) and senior
Molly Booth (Orono, Maine) then took part in the long jump. McPherson jumped a distance of 4.36m to place 20th and Barney came in 21st with her jump of 4.35m. Booth totaled a distance of 3.80m to place 25th.
McPherson also saw action in the 100-meter dash. The Virginia native clocked in a time of 13.57 to come in 27th while McIntyre crossed the line at 13.68 and Booth at 14.34. First-year
Mila Mutabdzija (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) also competed in the event and recorded a time of 15.15.
Viccora led the way in the 800-meter run, finishing the race in 2:54.38, while sophomore
Ella Scherrer (Simpsonville, S.C.) clocked in a time of 3:40.84.
Five Vixens contested the shot put with Gray leading the pack in 23rd with a throw of 8.85m. Both Gorman and first-year
Michaela Carr (Springfield, Va.) were not far behind Gray with their throws of 7.95m and 6.14m, respectively.
Rounding out the field was senior
Olivia Garrett (Williamsburg, Va.) who recorded a distance of 5.43m and Borum whose throw went 5.30m.
In the final track event of the day, the 200-meter dash, McPherson placed 26th with a time of 28.41. Booth crossed the finish line at the 30.14 mark and Mutabdzija earned a time of 31.89.
Highlights
- Barney earned the highest-place finish of any Vixen over the two days with her triple jump distance of 9.32m placing her in 13th.
- McPherson bested her indoor 200-meter dash time while Gray topped her indoor shot put record.

The Vixens will next see action at the EMU Invitational on April 11th.
