No. 75 Tennis Breezes Past Hollins

ROANOKE, Va. – The No. 75 Sweet Briar College tennis team (11-4, 6-1 ODAC) breezed past Hollins University (0-10, 0-6 ODAC) this afternoon with a dominant 7-0 victory.
 
The Vixens swept doubles play to take the first point in the match. The No. 1 doubles pairing of Guilarte/Lima earned a 6-2 defeat of Cruise/Foster. Both Bestwick/Caracciolo and Bovard/Cope won their matches by a score of 6-0 at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, respectively.
 
In singles play, three won their matches 6-0, 6-0. Sophomores Isadora Lima (Natal, Brazil) and Maggie Minton (Wytheville, Va.) earned their wins at No. 4 and No. 5 respectively, while first-year Ari Cope (Richmond, Va.) took down Zilina Robinson at the No. 6 flight.
 
Senior Ana Patino (Medellín, Colombia) defeated Kristiahn Foster at the No. 2 spot by set scores of 6-1, 6-0 and Alex Guilarte (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) won her No. 3 singles match against Rachel Hull by the same scores.
 
Rounding out the sweep for Sweet Briar was sophomore Juli Caracciolo (Los Cardales, Argentina) who took down Peja Cruise at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-4.

  • Sweet Briar has now won the last five matches against Hollins by scores of 7-0 or 9-0.
  • Both Lima and Minton have won four singles matches by scores of 6-0, 6-0 so far this season.
What's Next
The Vixens will head to Shenandoah tomorrow, April 15th, before traveling to Pennsylvania to take on Dickinson and Penn State Harrisburg on April 18th and 19th, respectively.
