LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Sweet Briar College softball team (16-22, 3-17 ODAC) dropped the last road doubleheader of the 2025 season today to the Randolph College WildCats (8-28, 7-13 ODAC).
The Vixens fell in two closely contested games by scores of 6-5 and 11-9.
Game One
Randolph got the scoring started in game one in the bottom of the second inning with three runs crossing home plate.
After a scoreless third, the Vixens answered back with a run scored by sophomore
Ruby Hite (Clarksville, Va.).
Sweet Briar tacked on two more runs in the fifth to tie the game up a three. First-year
Abi Sawyers' (Matthews, N.C.) left-field double allowed for both junior
Kaylie Hudson (Lynchburg, Va.) and sophomore
Jordan Martin (Wilmington, N.C.) to score.
The home team once again took the lead with another three-run inning in the bottom of the sixth bringing the game to 6-3.
A home run from first-year
Grace Rokos (Jacksonville, N.C.) and a single from Hudson brought in two runs but was not enough to take the win from the WildCats.
In the circle, sophomore
Ambyre Taylor (Arrington, Va.) got the start and struck out three through four innings. Junior
Alyssa O'Quinn (Powhatan, Va.) saw two innings of action in relief.
Hudson was three-for-four at the plate while Rokos was one-for-two. Sawyers led the team with her two RBIs.
Game Two
Game two once again saw Randolph take an early lead; this time going up by one run after the first inning and then doubling that lead in the second.
In the top of the fourth, the Vixens saw five runs cross home plate. A single from sophomore
Lacey Steppe (Charlotte County, Va.) scored first-year
Madeline Schmidt (Fluvanna, Va.) and Rokos while a triple from Martin and a single from Hudson scored one run each.
However, Randolph answered back with a five-run inning of its own to bring the score to 7-5.
Sweet Briar once again jumped ahead after a four-run fifth inning. Both sophomore
Jordan Dorrier (Buckingham, Va.) and Steppe hit doubles to drive in one run each. Sawyers once again saw a two-RBI hit after her single brought home Martin and Hite.
The WildCats' four-run inning in the bottom of the sixth, followed by a scoreless seventh for the Vixens, gave the home team the 11-9 victory.
Junior
Anna Smith (Rocky Mount, Va.) started the game for Sweet Briar and was followed in relief by first-year
Annie Purvis (Madison Heights, Va.) and O'Quinn. Taylor once again struck out three as she saw the final inning of action to completion.
Both Martin and Sawyer were four-for-three at the plate with Sawyers earning two RBIs and Martin scoring two runs.
The team combined to steal four bases in game two.
