SWEET BRIAR, Va. - The No. 3-seed Sweet Briar College tennis team (14-7, 8-2 ODAC) fell to the No. 6-seed Randolph College WildCats (10-8, 6-4 ODAC), 4-2, in today's Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Women's Tennis Championship quarterfinal match.
Randolph pulled ahead 1-0 following the completion of doubles with victories at No. 1 and No. 3 while Bovard/Caracciolo's No. 2 doubles match was tied at five games.
In singles play, junior
Lucia Bovard (Mount Pleasant, N.C.) was the first to finish her match with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Sabrina Dickerson.
First-year
Ari Venturi (Richmond, Va.) earned a 6-3, 6-2 victory in her No. 6 match against Gianna Cabrera.
When the match was called as a victory for Randolph, sophomore
Maggie Minton (Wytheville, Va.) was in the midst of her second set after defeated Emma Bauer 6-3 in set one at the No. 4 flight.
Highlights
- Bovard, sophomore Julianna Caracciolo (Los Cardales, Argentina), junior Alex Guilarte (Barquisimeto, Venezuela), sophomore Isadora Lima (Natal, Brazil), Minton and senior Ana Patino (Medellín, Colombia) all finished the dual season with 10 or more wins.
- Caracciolo went undefeated at No. 2 singles while Guilarte was undefeated at No. 3 singles with 6-0 and 8-0 records, respectively.
