Volleyball Concludes Season Series with Bluefield

BLUEFIELD, Va. – The Sweet Briar College volleyball team (0-4) concluded the season series with the Bluefield University Rams (4-0) this evening, falling in straight sets by scores of 25-5, 25-11, and 25-5

In the opening set, Sweet Briar gained an early 2-0 lead after capitalizing on Bluefield errors, but momentum quickly shifted as Bluefield rattled off a series of points with dominant serving, including multiple consecutive aces. The Rams maintained control and closed out the set 25-5.

The second set saw the Vixens compete more consistently, responding to Bluefield's early runs with points of their own, including a service ace from first-year Rachael Hunt (Willow Spring, N.C.). Senior Davis Shifflet (Louisa, Va.) and junior Emily Roberts (Walkertown, N.C.) contributed defensively and managed to keep rallies alive. Bluefield's balanced attack and tough service game helped the hosts build separation, leading to a 25-11 set victory.

Set three mirrored the first as the Rams' serve dictated play, putting Sweet Briar immediately on the defensive. The Vixens managed three attack attempts in the decisive set. Bluefield's service aces and quick scoring denied Sweet Briar opportunities to generate momentum, and the Rams took the final set 25-5 to close out the match.

Highlights
  • Roberts led the team in kills.
  • Shifflet recorded a team-high five digs in the contest.
