BALTIMORE, Md - The Sweet Briar College field hockey team (1-4, 0-0 ODAC) faced Goucher College (2-4, 0-0 Landmark) in a tough away battle that ultimately resulted in 4-0 loss.
In the first quarter, Sweet Briar started defensively as Goucher pressed hard, resulting in an early goal. Despite some fouls and a penalty corner opportunity for Sweet Briar near the end of the quarter, the team entered the first break down 1-0.
The second quarter followed a similar pattern, with both teams committing fouls and Sweet Briar making substitutions in attempts to spark some momentum followed by Goucher doubling their lead. Sweet Briar generated a couple of penalty corners before halftime but could not beat Goucher's defense, and the half ended with Sweet Briar trailing 2-0.
After halftime, Goucher's offense continued to dominate possession, accumulating penalty corners and earning saves from Sweet Briar's goalie, first-year
Bella Cosden (Gettysburg, Pa.). Goucher then extended their lead by two goals, and although Sweet Briar tallied shots on goal from sophomore
Megan Newton (Jaffrey, N.H.) and sophomore
Elise Palazzo (Allentown, Pa.), both were saved, leaving the score 4-0 in favor of Goucher heading to the final quarter.
During the fourth quarter, neither team scored as the game ended 4-0.
