SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The Sweet Briar College volleyball team (0-7) dropped its match to the Regent University Royals (7-3) today in straight sets, 25-3, 25-8, 25-14.
The opening set quickly turned in Regent's favor, despite Sweet Briar keeping pace early. Consecutive service and attack points from the Royals made it difficult for Sweet Briar to maintain momentum, allowing them to go on several significant runs.
In the second set, Sweet Briar improved its side-out and earned more points off serve. The set finished 14-25, with Sweet Briar showing momentary runs but ultimately conceding a larger margin. Sweet Briar showed defensive improvement, tallying more digs and attacking with higher volume, though Regent's block remained a challenge.
The third set saw Sweet Briar fighting to stay close, but Regent again surged late, winning 25-14. Sweet Briar managed more successful attacks and saw solid contributions from the backcourt; however, Regent's offense executed with consistent efficiency and closed out the match with a string of quick points. - Both junior Isabella Peregrine (Liberty, Mo.) and Hunt earned block assists in the second set.
- Wright led the team in digs with 15.
