RALEIGH, N.C. – The Sweet Briar College volleyball team (0-3) faced its first road contest of the season today as the Vixens travelled to Division III Shaw University Bears (1-0, 0-0 CIAA). Sweet Briar fell in straight sets to Shaw, with set scores of 25-3, 25-5, and 25-9.
In the opening set, the Vixens faced immediate pressure from Shaw's aggressive serving. Shaw controlled the pace from the start, seizing an 8-0 lead before Sweet Briar could score their first point. Sweet Briar finished the set with one kill.
The second set saw much of the same dominance from Shaw, while the Vixens managed one kill and were limited to five total points.
During the third set, Sweet Briar had a better offensive showing, posting two kills. The Vixens' best set for side outs came in the third, where they succeeded in eight out of twenty-five opportunities, a 32% rate.
Highlights
- Senior Davis Shiflett (Louisa, Va.) tallied 15 total attempts and contributed three points for Sweet Briar.
- Sophomore Mila Mutabdzija (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) posted a .250 hitting percentage with four attempts.
What's Next
The Vixens will head to Bluefield on Sept. 10th before returning home to face Clinton on Sept. 11th.
