PENN LAIRD, Va. – The Sweet Briar College indoor track & field team shone at the Shane Stevens Winter Invitational, hosted by Bridgewater today.
On the track, first-year sprinter
Tyasia Spencer (Fredericksburg, Va.) placed sixth in the 60-meter dash in 8.57 and returned to take eighth in the 400-meter dash in 1:08.67 after opening in a fast 28.97 through 200 meters.
Fellow first-year
Azshalay Utley (Columbus, Ohio) was eighth in the 60-meter dash in 9.32 and later ran 1:16.23 for 400 meters to finish 13th, while classmate
Violet Walsh (Chesterfield County, Va.) finished ninth in the 60-meter dash in 9.70 and added a 14th-place finish in the 200-meter dash in 32.08.
Junior
Amanda Costa (Watertown, N.Y.) also saw action in the 400-meter dash and recorded a time of 1:13.15 to finish 11th.
In the mid-distance events, first-year
Elaina Sherline (Morehead City, N.C.) delivered a standout performance in the 800-meter run, taking third in 2:30.14 with consistent 36–38 second splits, and junior
Mia Viccora (Fairfax, Va.) clocked 6:16.42 to place 17th in the mile.
In the field events, first-year
Elena Fomin (Middlesex County, Va.) became the first Vixen to compete in pole vault with a clearance of 2.28 meters.
In the shot put, senior
Jaiana Gray (Chicago, Ill.) placed seventh with a toss of 9.51 meters to lead the Vixens' throwers, and sophomore
Michaela Carr (Springfield, Va.) recorded a mark of 5.35 meters to finish 13th in the same event.
Highlights
- Sherline has bested her previously set program record in the 800-meter run for the third time, while Gray also improves upon her school record in the indoor shot put.
- Viccora set a new personal record in the mile by nine seconds.

The Vixens will compete at the Joe LaRocco Invitational on Feb. 14th.
