LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Sweet Briar College indoor track & field team kicked off 2026 this afternoon with action at The Burg Open.
The event began for the Vixens with the 60-meter dash. First-year
Tyasia Spencer (Fredericksburg, Va.) led the way in 18th with a time of 8.54 followed by sophomore
Electra McPherson (Madison Heights, Va.) and fellow first-year
Violet Walsh (Chesterfield County, Va.) who posted times of 8.82 and 9.69, respectively.
In the mile run, first-year
Elaina Sherline (Morehead City, N.C.) recorded Sweet Briar's only top-ten finish of the day with ninth thanks to a time of 5:56.74. Junior
Mia Viccora (Fairfax, Va.) completed the race in 6:30.93 to place 14th.
Sophomore
Michaela Carr (Springfield, Va.) was the lone field event competitor and came 14th in the shot put with a throw of 5.52m.
Junior
Amanda Costa (Watertown, N.Y.) raced for the Vixens in the 400-meter dash and placed 12th after crossing the finish line at the 1:11.33 mark.
Three Sweet Briar runners saw action in the 800-meter run as Sherline led the way in the 11th with a time of 2:37.06. Viccora and Costa finished back-to-back in 13th and 14th, respectively.
Spencer also saw success in the 200-meter dash where she recorded a time of 28.33 to place in 14th. McPherson came in 25th followed by Walsh in 26th.
Highlights
- Sherline set a new program record in the mile and 800-meter run while Spencer put her name atop the record book in the 200-meter dash.
- Costa, Sherline, Spencer and Walsh all competed in their first collegiate track & field meet today.

The Vixens will compete at the Finn Pincus Invite, hosted by Roanoke, Jan. 16th – 17th.
