SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The Sweet Briar College field hockey team (0-8, 0-1 ODAC) battled throughout Saturday afternoon at Thayer Field but fell 3–0 to the Bridgewater College Eagles (6-1, 4-1 ODAC) in its conference opener.
Bridgewater applied pressure early, hitting the post just 18 seconds into the contest before Sweet Briar goalkeeper, junior
Reiyn Hart (Bridgton, Maine), and the Vixens settled into their defensive shape. The Eagles broke through at 10:41, then added a second goal at 14:47 to take a 2–0 advantage into the second quarter.
Hart made several important stops as Sweet Briar worked to contain a steady Bridgewater attack. She denied shots during the second quarter, helping the Vixens keep the margin at two heading into halftime.
Sweet Briar created its best offensive opportunity of the afternoon in the third quarter. Sophomore
Haley Littlefield (Albany Township, Maine) recorded the Vixens' lone shot of the match at the 41:32 mark, pushing an attempt wide as
Sweet Briar continued to compete on both ends of the field. Hart added three more saves in the quarter.
Bridgewater scored its final goal early in the fourth quarter, finding the back of the cage at 45:49. Hart continued to battle in goal over the final 15 minutes, making three additional saves and finishing with nine total stops. She faced 23 Bridgewater shots and turned away nine of the Eagles' 12 shots on goal.

The Vixens will continue ODAC play next week at Lynchburg on Oct. 6th and at home against Randolph-Macon on Oct. 10th for Senior Day.
