GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Sweet Briar College swim team (1-8, 1-6 ODAC) wrapped up the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championships with a full-team effort highlighted by both individual swims and relay racing across Saturday prelims and finals.
Saturday's prelims opened with action in the 100-yard freestyle prelims that turned into a Sweet Briar showcase of depth: junior
Emily Carter (Kermit, W. Va.) placed 28th, first-year
Kylee Nickerson (Waterford, Mich.) 30th, junior
Julia Elliott (Norfolk, Va.) 31st and first-year
Ava Powers (Crandall, Texas) 32nd. Those four entries gave Sweet Briar a swimmer in nearly every morning heat of the sprint free, demonstrating the program's growing sprint core.
In the 200-yard butterfly final session, sophomore
Karissa Boyce (Red Rock, Texas) battled through to place sixteenth with a time of 4:07.45 after going 4:02.67 in the prelims, giving Sweet Briar another scoring swim in the evening program.
The Championships concluded with a ninth-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay as the team of Carter, Nickerson, Elliott and junior
EJ Scherrer (Simpsonville, S.C.) earned a time of 4:58.18.
Highlights
- Carte, Elliott and Nickerson all recorded new personal-best times in the 100-yard freestyle event.
- Both of Boyce's times in the 200-yard butterfly today mark a new personal best.
