SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The Sweet Briar College lacrosse team (0-11, 0-5 ODAC) honored its graduating seniors ahead of afternoon action against the Bridgewater College Eagles (8-6, 3-3 ODAC) today.
The Vixens fell to the Eagles by a score of 20-0 after three quarters of action.
Bridgewater opened the scoring at 14:12 of the first quarter and quickly built an 8-0 lead by the end of the period, with Sweet Briar's early pressure limited to a few clears and draw controls
Sweet Briar's defense had its busiest stretch in the first and second quarters, as sophomore goalkeeper
Mack Markham (Denver, N.C.) made two saves in the first period and fellow sophomore
Larkin Shire (Caroline County, Va.) added three more after halftime, helping keep the margin from growing even faster.
Bridgewater continued to score steadily in the second quarter, reaching 13-0 by the break, while Sweet Briar's best possession moments came from players like first-year
Lyndsay Davis (Mocksville, N.C.), who led the team with three ground balls and three draw controls, and first-year
Layla Robinson (Millville, N.J.), who recorded one ground ball, one draw control and one caused turnover.
In the third quarter, Bridgewater added seven more goals, but Sweet Briar's defense forced some stoppages and challenges, including a caused turnover by sophomore
Natalia Alvini-Moore (Middletown, Del.) and another by Shire.
