GREENWOOD, Ind. – The Sweet Briar College softball team landed four student-athletes on the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Softball Team, the organization announced today, May 26th.
Named to the team were senior
Alyssa O'Quinn (Powhatan, Va.) and sophomores
Madeline Schmidt (Fluvanna, Va.),
Annie Purvis (Madison Heights, Va.) and
Abi Sawyers (Matthews, N.C.).
O'Quinn made 15 appearances for the Vixens this season and 35 innings of action while striking out 13 over the course of the season.
Purvis recorded a total of six runs, 20 hits, three doubles and 12 RBIs in her 33 games of action this season, all career-high totals.
Sawyers split time this season between the infield and the pitcher's circle. She earned a career-low ERA of 3.98 while earning six wins and totaling 37 strikeouts. At the plate, the North Carolina native had a .320 batting average on her way to totaling 20 runs, 33 hits, eight doubles, three triples and six home runs.
Schmidt played in a career-high 37 games while also setting personal best totals in runs scored, hits and RBIs in 76 total at-bats.
This marks the third CSC All-Academic honor for O'Quinn and the first for Purvis, Sawyers and Schmidt.
To be eligible for the CSC Academic All-District Team, nominees must compete in 90 percent of the institution's games played or must start in at least 66 percent of the institution's games. For pitchers, a student-athlete must have made at least 17 appearances or pitched 35 innings. Student-athletes must also have achieved at least a 3.50 GPA.
