SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The Sweet Briar volleyball team (0-7, 0-1 ODAC) fell in tonight's Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) opener to the Averett University Cougars (1-5, 1-0 ODAC) by set scores of 25-8, 25-15, and 25-9.
In the opening set Sweet Briar managed three kills provided by first-year
Addison Garner (Elizabeth City, N.C.) and senior
Emily Roberts (Walkertown, N.C.), but Averett was about to pull away for a 25-8 victory.
The second set saw a more tightly matched contest between the two teams, with five lead changes and six tie scores. Sweet Briar was able to match their kills from the first set with three provided by first-year
Kylee Cox (Paris, Ill.) and Garner. The Cougars eventually took control towards the end of the set, winning 25-15.
The third set saw the Vixens total nine points off a service ace from first-year
Allie de Moet (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) and few a service and attacking errors by the Cougars. Averett claimed the third set 25-9.
