Don Healy is an experienced lacrosse coach with strong instructional background. He has been involved with lacrosse for over 40 years as player, parent, coach and official. He served as an assistant coach of the Vixens during the 2022 season under interim Head Coach Elizabeth Parr and in 2008 under Head Coach Hillary London. Don was instrumental in the success of the 2022 season, working with goalies and helping develop plays and drills.
Don has previously coached alongside Head Coach Eric Allen with the boys high school programs at Monticello High School, Fluvanna County High School and Tandem Friends School. He has coached at James River Day School in Lynchburg, VA, Saint Anne’s Belfield and Albemarle High School in Charlottesville, VA. Don also officiated girls and women's games for seven years at the high school and college level. Prior to returning to Sweet Briar in 2022, he was the girls Head Coach at Charlottesville High School.
Don played in high school at Mercersburg Academy (PA) and college at Texas Tech. He completed his undergrad at Central Washington University (Primary Education) and he has the unique distinction of being Sweet Briar’s first master’s program male graduate (Differentiated Instruction).
After serving in the United States Navy aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln and the United States Coast Guard, Don began his 20 plus year career as a primary school teacher. He currently teaches at Murray Elementary School in Ivy, VA. Don’s teaching experience is reflected in his positive coaching style.
Don has two adult children both of whom played high school at Saint Anne’s Belfield, his daughter Asthon went on to play club at Old Dominion University and his son Conor went on to play at University of Mary Washington. Don is engaged to Amy Martin and has one grandchild Silas, age 2. He spends his spare time gardening and renovating his “skoolie”.
