Meredith Newman enters her fifth season as the head lacrosse coach at Sweet Briar College and ninth overall season as a collegiate head coach during the 2020-21 academic year, while also serving as the recruiting coordinator for the Sweet Briar athletics department.

In her most recent season at Sweet Briar, Newman's Vixens earned their first top-30 national statistical ranking since the 2012 season (29th in caused turnovers per game, 9.63) as the Vixens finished the 2020 campaign fourth in the nation in caused turnovers per game with 18.0. 

Under Newman's tutelage, sophomore Kaylah Bailey was named First Team All-State by VaSID as a midfielder after Bailey scored the 17th most goals in the nation, with a 29 goal outpouring in 2020.

During her time at Sweet Briar, Newman has had one student-athlete recognized as an All-State honoree by VaSID and has had two student-athletes earn Honorable Mention All-Independent (Victoria Lawson and Elizabeth Phaup, 2018).

Under Newman's watch, Sweet Briar lacrosse has had four student-athletes named to the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll, five named VaSID Academic All-State and one named to the ODAC All-Academic list, while as a team the Vixens have twice been named an IWLCA Team Academic Honor Squad.

Prior to Newman's appointment at Sweet Briar before the 2017 season, Newman spent two seasons as the head coach at Augustana College (Ill.). Newman posted a 37-5 overall record at Augustana and twice lead the Vikings to the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Tournament while being named the College Conference of Ilinois and Wisconsin Coach of the Year in 2015.

During the 2015 season, Augustana led the nation in scoring offense with 18.29 goals per game, assists per game with 11.76 and scoring margin at 11.76. The following season the Vikings were second in assists per game (9.67) and scoring margin (9.67).

In both trips to the NCAA Tournament, the Vikings earned second-round victories against Concordia (Wis.). 

Newman's Augustana student-athletes were recognized over two seasons by the IWLCA, CoSIDA and CCIW, including in 2015 when Hilary Kargle was named a Third Team IWLCA All-American.

Newman's collegiate coaching career got underway at Beloit College, where she led the Buccaneers during the 2013 and 2014 seasons.

Before taking the reins at Beloit, Newman spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Kenyon College.

As a student-athlete, Newman competed in both lacrosse and equestrian at Sweet Briar. A four-year member of the lacrosse program, Newman played in 49 games for the Vixens and scored 83 goals and dished out 45 assists.

Newman was an All-ODAC honoree in 2009 for the Sweet Briar equestrian team.

Newman graduated from Sweet Briar with a Bachelor of Arts in sociology in 2009.

Newman is a member of the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association, U.S. Lacrosse and Women's Leaders. Newman holds coaching certificates as Positive Coaching Alliance Double-Goal Coach and a U.S. Lacrosse Level One certificate.
