Due to snow on Babcock Field, the Sweet Briar lacrosse team
opened their season with a home game at the Randolph College turf
facility. The Vixens came out strong, scoring 12 goals in the first
half, and seven in the second.
Leading the way for the Vixens was Junior DJ Abernathy (Annadale,
Va) who scored six goals and had two assists on the day. Other
leading scorers of the game were sophomore Sarah Winstead (Apex,
NC) who scored four goals. First year Sam Schwartz (Pittsburgh, Pa)
scored three goals, and sophomore Mallroy Lengel (Great Mills, MD)
scored two goals. Scoring one goal each was senior Melissa
Carron (Grosse Pointe, MI), sophomore Seanne Weekes (San Hose, Ca),
first year Jessie Edington (Alexandria, Va), and sophomore Brittany
Fox (Charlottesville, Va).
In goal for the Vixens was sophomore Happy Lathrop (Lake Oswego,
OR) who had eight saves in the win. Sweet Briar successfully
cleared the ball out of the defensive end 8 for 10 tries. Sweet
Briar took a total of 43 shots with putting only nine shots wide
and hitting the post twice. The NC Wesleyan goalkeeper was able to
make 13 saves.
Congratulations to the Vixens for starting off strong!! Good luck
as they prepare for their next home game on Wednesday when they
take on Marywood College at Babcock Field at 4:30pm.
