The Sweet Briar College Vixens traveled to Randolph-Macon Ashland to take on the Yellow Jackets today.  Under the threat of predicted rain for the afternoon, the teams agreed to start the match with singles play. 

The singles play of the Vixen squad was dominant on four of the six courts. The order of how each player finished started with a win from first-year player Moriah Burke at second singles, winning 6-0, 6-1. Second to finish was first-year player Glory Bowman (Roanoke, Va.) winning her court 6-1,6-1. Senior Virginia Edahl (Charlotte, N.C.) came off her court next, also having won in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4. Edahl was followed shortly by sophomore Krista Maldonado (Ennis, Texas) who won her court 6-2, 6-2. 

The Vixens took a solid 4-0 lead as the number three doubles team of first-year player Ann Roach (North Oaks, Minn.) and junior Ebie Baker (Farmville, Va.) took the court.

With two singles courts still fighting it out at the fourth and sixth positions, the team of junior Ebie Baker (Farmville, Va.) and first-year Ann Roach (North Oaks, Minn.) played solid doubles to secure the winning match point by taking their doubles win, 8-1.

Sophomore Julia Green (Vancouver, Wash.) played at number four singles and first-year player Sarah Manter (Brunswick, Maine) at sixth singles. As they were continuing their battles, the first doubles team of Edahl-Burke took to the court. 

Both Green and Manter lost with scores of 6-3, 7-5 for Green and Manter's,7-5, 6-4.

Edahl-Burke were about mid-match when Green and Manter came off their courts.  They prevailed with some solid hitting under some darkening skies, winning handily 8-1.

With the match secured in favor of Sweet Briar, the second doubles team of Maldonado-Bowman did not play.

The Vixens will travel to Hilton Head, South Carolina for their spring trip and will compete against Wheaton College (Mass.), Richard Stockton College (N.J.), and the College of Wooster (Ohio).
