The Vixen tennis squad made their way to visit the Generals of #6 Washington & Lee on Saturday. The nationally ranked Generals (Intercollegiate Tennis Association/NCAA) proved their dominance in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) winning all courts, but the match did not go by without the continuous fight of the Vixens.

Paired together for doubles competition were the team of senior Virginia Edahl (Charlotte, N.C.) and first-year Moriah Burke (Rockville, Md.). They played tough against W & L's team of Morris-Lukas, with W & L winning 8-2. The team of sophomore Krista Maldonado (Ennis, Texas) and first-year Glory Bowman (Roanoke, Va.) went against the General's Caire-Yeatman who won 8-1. Playing third doubles for the Vixens were sophomore Julia Green (Vancouver, Wash.) and first-year Sarah Manter (Brunswick, Maine). They went up against Brzeski-Sadler of the Generals, who took the third doubles point 8-0.

In singles action the highlights were numerous according to head coach Teresa Boylan. “Each player had their hands full with the seasoned and highly ranked Generals. I feel the high level of play brought out the best in my team and they all had some very spirited exchanges. Although the scores indicate differently, we saw a lot of great shot making and rallies from this Sweet Briar team; we are working on continuous improvement and it definitely showed today. I am optimistic that the results will be there toward the conference championship tournament.”
