The Vixen lacrosse team battled visiting Randolph College on Wednesday afternoon at Babcock field. The Vixens were able to make the best of the opportunities they created and won by a score of 16-2. DJ Abernathy (Annandale, VA) scored 5 goals, while teammates Sarah Winstead (Apex, NC) and Jessie Edington (Alexandria, VA) each netted a hat trick.

Abernathy had the first 3 goals of the game.  She scored the first goal 29 seconds into the game, and put another one in the net two minutes later. Abernathy's third goal came at 5 minutes 30 seconds into the game. It was teammate Brittany Fox (Charlottesville, VA) who would score the 4th goal to break up Abernathy's raid on cage. The Vixens scored 8 goals in the first half, with the last goal coming with only 27 seconds left in the half.

Making her first collegiate start, senior Allison Stansberry (Nashville, TN) scored her first ever collegiate goal, ground ball, and collected a draw control. " Its very exciting, of course, I did it in my kind of style but this is a big first for me!" said Stansberry.

In goal for the Vixens was first year Megan Link (Great Falls, VA) who had one of her most accurate outings. Coach London had this to say about Megan's performance in net today, "One of Megan's goals for today's game was to have accurate clears, and she certainly did; she went 14-14. She had a solid day in the cage. We were really happy with her distance on her clears as well, she was not only on point but they ranged out farther."

Some other stand out performances from the game included junior Melissa Clough (Leesburg, VA) who had 3 caused turnovers. Sarah Winstead had 3 goals, 2 assists, 3 ground balls, 1 draw control,  and 2 caused turnovers. Sophomore Sam Schwartz (Pittsburgh, PA) had 2 goals, 3 draw controls, and 3 caused turnovers. Lastly, sophomore Remy Stein (Reading, PA) had 2 draw controls, and 2 caused turnovers.

The Vixens return to the field on Sunday when they head to North Carolina Wesleyan, game time is set for 1pm.
