The Vixen lacrosse team took on visiting Hollins University on Wednesday afternoon at Babcock Field. Sam Schwartz ('13/ Pittsburgh, PA) led the scoring effort with 5 goals. Other goal contributors included Brittany Fox ('12/ Charlottesville, VA) with 4, Seanne Weekes ('13/ San Jose, CA) scored 3, and Sarah Winstead ('13/ Apex, NC) scored 1.  Melissa Clough ('12/ Leesburg, VA) had 4 caused turnovers and 5 ground balls.

Hollins took 31 shots compared to the Vixens 28, but Sweet Briar made the most of their scoring attempts, and walked off the field victorious by a score of 13-5.  Sweet Briar was able to out hustle Hollins to the ground balls by grabbing 26 while Hollins was only able to grab 20.

Between the pipes was first year Megan Link (Great Falls, VA). Megan had 18 saves in the game. "I was very pleased with Megan's effort in goal today. She made vast improvements on her clear attempts and came up with some big clears," said coach London. 

DJ Abernathy ('11/ Annadale, VA) stepped up the play in the midfield by scooping up 3 ground balls and causing 3 turnovers. Coach London had this to say about DJ's performance today, "DJ had a great game in the midfield for us. She was able to help out on both sides of the field and really changed the pace of the game. Her 2 assists were perfect."

The Vixens are back in action on Friday when they take on visiting Methodist, game time is 3:30. Friday is also Senior Day for Vixen lacrosse.
