The Vixen lacrosse team hosted Methodist University on Friday afternoon at Babcock Field. Friday was a special day for Sweet Briar for two reasons: 1) it was the sophomore/junior open house;  and 2) it was Senior Day. The Vixens honored their four seniors before the game began. DJ Abernathy (Annandale, VA), Kristen Green (Manassas, VA), Stewart Hulfish (Alexandria, VA), and Allison Stansberry (Nashville, TN).

All four seniors were able to play a hand in the win today. Both DJ and Stewart scored 2 goals apiece. Kristen added a goal to the tally, while Allison added  1 ground ball and 1 caused turnover. Other key contributors in today's game were Brittany Fox ('12/Charlottesville, VA) who scored 4 goals and had 4 caused turnovers. Sophomore Jessie Edington ('13/ Alexandria, VA) scored 3 goals, grabbed 5 ground balls, and had 4 caused turnovers. Sophomore Sam Schwartz (Pittsburgh, PA) and junior Sarah Winstead (Apex, NC) each netted 3 goals apiece. Rounding out the scoring effort was junior Melissa Clough (Leesburg, VA) who scored her first goal of the season.

Sweet Briar took 43 shots and put 35 on goal. On the defensive side of the field, the Vixens went 8-9 on clear attempts. The Vixens scored  8 goals in the first half and went into half-time leading Methodist by only 3 goals. In the second half, the Vixens turned it on, scoring 11 goals to Methodist's 8. Sweet Briar out-shot Methodist 43-25 and had 6 less turnovers, 26-20.

This makes it two wins in a row for the Vixens, and a great way to celebrate with their seniors. Sweet Briar is back in action tomorrow when they head to Lynchburg College.
