Box Score FROSTBURG, Md. --- The Vixen field hockey team dropped a 9-0 decision to Bobcats of Frostburg State College this afternoon. The Bobcats jumped out to a 6-0 lead by halftime and added three more goals in the second half to account for the final score.
Senior goalkeeper Madeline Wilson (Orange, Va.) played well in goal turning away many Frostburg scoring chances. Wilson was assisted by defender Maggie McNamara ('11/Yorktown, Va.), who worked to foil a number of scoring tries by the Bobcats.
Though Sweet Briar was unable to capitalize on their scoring opportunities, the young Vixen midfield stood out in the opener. Adelaide Hedge ('15/Winston-Salem, N.C.), Loralei Whittaker ('14/Chesapeake, Va.) and Arielle Sperrazza ('15/Bedford, Va.) comprised the group that was responsible for setting up several plays into the Frostburg end.
The Bobcats were led by forward Alli Elliot ('13/Mechanicsville, Md.), as she scored four goals on the afternoon to lead all scorers. For the Vixens, Whittaker paced the attack, taking four shots and forcing two saves from Frostburg goalkeeper Maggie Edwards ('13/Lebanon, N.J.)
The Vixens make their 2011 home debut on Sunday, September 4. Sweet Briar will host Oberlin College in a noon matchup at Thayer Field.
