Vixens Catch Marlins, Net ODAC Win

Box Score

NORFOLK, Va. --- Sweet Briar earned its first Old Dominion Athletic Conference win of the season against Virginia Wesleyan College on Friday evening.  With the 2012 schedule coming to a close, both teams entered the contest looking for the important league win.  The Vixens ended doubles action down (2-1), and headed in to singles match play with more wins on their minds.  Yuliya Rigg (Sweet Briar, Va./Amherst) started the run to team victory on court five (7-6, 6-4).  Three teammates followed suit, VWC conceded court six, and the Vixens walked away with the 6-3 win over the Marlins.

Sarah Manter (Brunswick, Maine/Brunswick) took court one, followed by Emma Merritt-Cuneo (Pacifica, Calif./Oceana) winning court two.  SBC first-year Rachel Byrd (Hartfield, Va./Mathews) rounded out the trio of Vixen straight set wins on court four to solidify the conference win.
