SBC Lacrosse Streak Snapped

Box Score

SWEET BRIAR, Va. --- Sweet Briar Lacrosse hosted Guilford College in Saturday afternoon Old Dominion Athletic Conference Women's Lacrosse action on Babcock Field.  Both teams entered the contest looking for their first ODAC win on the season. At the day's start, SBC owned a 4-1 record and a two-game win streak.

Three minutes into the contest, Guilford scored off a Marina Bailey (Rockville, Md./Thomas S. Wootton) score.  Under a minute later, Lilly Colley (Wells, Maine/Wells (Clark) ) added to the Guilford lead.  Sweet Briar's Olivia Hurt (Charlottesville, Va./The Covenant School) recorded the first Vixen tally with a free position shot at 24:09.

Guilford responded with three unanswered goals to extend the advantage, 5-1.  Hurt connected with a Kimberly Orchowski (Crofton, Md./Arundel) pass to pull the Vixen side within three at 12:34.  After a lengthy scoreless period, Orchowski spotted Torrey Schwartz (McMurray, Pa./Peter's Township). The Schwartz goal pulled SBC within two goals (5-3) as halftime approached.

Quaker Becca Colley (Wells, Maine/Wells) countered just under the three-minute mark and then teammates Eleanora Keen (Wittman, Md./Gunston Day School) and L. Colley combined for a goal putting the half time score at three goals to seven in favor of the visitors.

Guilford opened the final stanza by scoring four consecutive goals.  Midway through the half Orchowski teamed up with Sam Schwartz to open second half SBC scoring.  Again the Quakers countered with two scores by Keene and B. Colley.

Orchowski collected an unassisted goal with time dwindling on the Vixen comeback.  The Quakers, however, responded with tallies from E'Lleyna  Garcia (Plantation, Fla./Pine Crest Prep)  and Keene.  Hurt scored another free position shot with 29 seconds remaining in the half and with game time expiring Orchowski and T. Schwartz capped scoring on a last second Vixen goal, but the effort was too late.  Guilford upended host SBC by the score of 15-7.

Vixen Goalkeeper Caroline Baker (Virginia Beach, Va./Norfolk Academy) made 21 saves on 36 shots over the full 60-minute contest.  With the loss the SBC record falls to 4-2 overall and 0-2 in the ODAC.

Sweet Briar now turns its attention toward two away matches during spring break.  The team travels north to the Keystone State for contests with Neumann (Aston, Pa.) and Bryn Mawr.
