Box Score SWEET BRIAR, Va. --- Vixen Lacrosse took the field on Wednesday afternoon looking to extend its win streak and collect another Old Dominion Athletic Conference victory. In their previous outing, Sweet Briar rolled past league opponent Hollins University by the score of 20-2.
Sweet Briar's
Sam Schwartz (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) paced the Vixen offense and helped lead the team to an 18-11 triumph over ODAC foe Randolph College. Schwartz poured in five goals in the winning effort.
SBC opened scoring with back-to-back tallies from Allison Hassard (Greensboro, N.C./Grimsley) and Olivia Hurt (Charlottesville, Va./The Covenant School). The WildCats answered with a goal by Melanie Eisele (Kennett Square, Pa./Sanford School) at the 24:47 mark to set the score at 2-1 favoring the Vixens.
The teams traded two for one again as the SBC side picked up scores from first-years Taylor Klos (Manson, Ohio/Manson) and Torrey Schwartz (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township). The WildCats answered with a Fran Klostermyer (Princeton, N.J./Montgomery) score, and then the hosts responded with a 4-0 run to end the period and give Sweet Briar an 8-2 lead heading into intermission.
Randolph scored early in the final period, but SBC went on another four-goal run to extend the lead to 12-3. Both teams pushed the tempo in the final 30 minutes.
Sophomores Kelsey Barta (Ballard, Wash./Ballard) and Hassard combined for nine of the team's 15 draw controls and nine different Vixens found the back of the net as SBC earned its second ODAC win in a row.
In goal for Sweet Briar, Caroline Baker (Virginia Beach, Va./Norfolk Academy) made six stops on a dozen shots faced. First-year goal keeper Katie Torretti (Lemon Grove, Calif./Bishops School) was inserted into the game with 10:27 remaining in the contest. Torretti made three saves to perserve the victory.
With the win, the SBC record improves to 8-8 overall and 2-7 in the ODAC.
The 2013 regular season concludes for Vixen Lacrosse on Sunday, April 21 when SBC welcomes the Washington and Lee University Generals to Babcock Field for a 2 p.m. ODAC contest.
Prior to Sunday's game, Vixen Athletics will honor four seniors. The lacrosse quartet includes: Rachael Ashdown (Dryden, N.Y./Dryden), Jessie Edington (Alexandria, Va./Bishop Ireton), Remy Stein (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township) and Sam Schwartz (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township).
